As usual, we shall not meet on the following Mondays:
As part of a nation-wide campaign by Barnado's, we participated in a collection on their behalf outside Tesco's store in Jane Murray Way, Burgess Hill on the afternoon of Saturday, 30th September 2006, as a collaborative effort between the four local Rotary Clubs, taking £231 during the afternoon. It appears that District 1250 collected by far the largest amount among the Districts in England, with 18% of the total.
We held a collection outside Tesco's store in Jane Murray Way, Burgess Hill on Thursday,20th July 2006, which realised £450.
We did not meet at the White Horse on Monday, 14th August 2006, when we had a Hog Roast at the home of Past President John Baker
At our meeting on 26th June 2006, Retiring President John Baker handed over the chain of office to President-Elect Paul Bowley.
We did not meet at the White Horse on Monday, 27th November 2006, because the pub was closed for the change of ownership on that day (which did not happen!). Instead we met at the Hassocks Hotel, Station Approach East, at the usual time.
Also, on Monday, 4th December 2006, we had our annual Christmas Dinner at Mid Sussex Golf Club, and so were not at the White Horse on that evening.
We held our usual Street Collections in Hurstpierpoint on Saturday 2nd December 2006, and in Hassocks on Saturday 9th December 2006. We received the usual generous support from the passers-by, collecting £295 in Hurst and £325 in Hassocks. A very good result.
We held our Annual Burns Supper on Monday, 22nd January 2007, at Mid Sussex Golf Club.
On Monday, 2nd April 2007, the Club visited the Theatre Royal in Brighton, to see the Rocky Horror Show. Consequently we did not meeting at the White Horse on that occasion.
On Saturday 31st March 2007 we held a Race Night and Quiz at the Adastra Hall in Hassocks. This was aimed at providing the funds to buy a defibrillator with which to launch the First Responders scheme in Hassocks. This folows the successful operation in Hurstpierpoint last year.
A very successful evening was enjoyed by a capacity audience, and over £2,000 was raised. This has been matched by Hassocks Parish Council, so that the first two defibrillators can be purchased.
Our annual Golf Day was again held this year, on Wednesday, 23rd May 2007 at Mid Sussex Golf Club, when a sum of about £3000 was raised to fund the purchase of Shelter Tents and for other local causes. See the Press Release of 25th May 2007 for a report. Our regular meeting scheduled for Monday, 21st May 2006, was transferred to that day.
We again supported Rotary Kids Out! on 13th June. when We took 20 children and some staff from Newick House School to Chessington World of Adventure. See the Press release of 14 June 2007 for a report.
